Grinnsjö Nature Reserve

The preserve, which is located in the central part of Hunneberg, includes two crofters’ holdings: Grinnsjö to the north and Fagerhult to the south. The crofters’ holdings are of great value to the mountains in that they show such a rich flora. Plants such as globeflower, milkwort, mountain arnica, quaking-grass, and cat’s foot can be found here.

The forest consists, to a large extent, of a 90-year-old mixed needle forest. In connection to the crofters’ holdings elm, lime, Swedish white beam, ash, oak, and horse chestnut can be found. The two crofters’ holdings were first mentioned in 1640. The framework of the present cottage in Grinnsjön is probably from the 18th century. Ever since 1907, Fagerhult has served as the location where lunch is served during the royal elk hunting.
